Herbal syrups

Sugar has moistening and tonifying properties. Herbal syrups are often used for mild cases, such as to moisten the Lung. Because they taste sweet, they are more readily accepted by patients, especially by children. 

Herbal Syrups Syrups are made by drying the herb and soaking it in water or oil and then adding a sweetener to the mix. The sweetener is usually honey or sugar mixture heated until syrup forms.

Syrups are made by adding cane sugar to a liquid herbal decoction. 

Folklore Rosehips are also used to make syrups for babies and young children. Traditionally rosehips were made into preserves to retain then- health benefits into the winter months (Bown, 2003 British Herbal Medicine Association, 1983). 

There are different forms of herbal therapies. These are oils, balms, creams, ointments, teas, tinctures, capsules, tablets, and syrups. Although herbs are available in these forms, some herbs should only be administered externally and not used internally.

Some solutions for oral use cannot meet the requirement of clarity. They may be lightly opalescent due to insoluble ingredients of herbal origin. Cough syrup in the Netherlands...
