Hemopexin, carbohydrate

Hemopexin a single-chain, heme-binding pl-plas-ma glycoprotein, Af, 57,000. H. contains 22 % carbohydrate. In contrast to Haptoglobin (see), H. binds neither hemoglobin nor cytochrome c, but only their prosthetic group, heme. 100 ml human plasma contains 80 to 100 mg H.
