Helium in natural gas

Helium is the most common element in the universe, next to hydrogen. On earth, however, it is rare, but it is present at a level of 5 ppm in the atmosphere. Owing to the production of a-radiation by radioactive decay in the earth s crust, helium is continuously produced there, and this can give rise to a rather high content of helium in natural gas. [Pg.1135]
