For demonstrating the sensitivity and the reliability of using white-line intensity to determine the valence states in mixed valence compounds [17], the in situ reduction behavior of C03O4 is first examined. A Gatan TEM (transmission electron microscopy) specimen heating stage was employed to carry out the in situ EELS experiments, and the specimen temperature could be increased continuously from room temperature to 1000°C. The column pressure was kept at 3 x 10 torr or lower during the in situ analysis. [Pg.91]

From perfect dislocations to dissociated glide dislocations Rabier and Demenet [69] performed in situ annealing in a transmission electron microscope in order to promote the transformation of perfect dislocations into dissociated glide dislocations. A low-deformation microstructure was obtained at room temperature and under a pressure of 5 GPa in the conditions described in Section 2.2.1. It contained perfect dislocations with their usual character, like <112>/30°, as well as cracks. This sample was annealed in the heating stage of a... [Pg.72]
