After computations have been made to establish the number of required theoretical contacts, the equipment must be designed. Our central focus is the column, even thongh the system comprises heat exchangers, pumps, vessels, controls, and so forth. The sequence of steps that applies to the design of a new distillation system, or to the analysis of an existing system, is as follows.
