In this example, PVC batch plant is used as shown in figure 9-5 while table 9-1 shows the operation details of PVC - reaction process. 

After the completion of one batch, reactor vessel is rinsed by charging the reactor with a controlled amount of demineralized water and some surfactants and other additives. 

Another batch is started by adding a measured amount of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM).  

The polymerization is started by adding a small amount of initiator to the batch and steam is circulated through the reactor jacket to heat the contents up to about 327 [K1.
