Hatting agent

The popularity of aspirin has led to the preparation of a liost of relatively simple derivatives in the hope of finding a ilrug that would be either superior in action or better tolerated. i alicylamide (5), for example, is sometimes prescribed for pa-I Lents allergic to aspirin. It should be noted, however, that I his agent is not as active as the parent compound as an antiinflammatory or analgesic agent. This may be related to the fact I hat salicylamide does not undergo conversion to salicylic acid i 11 the body. [Pg.109]

The documents were an incomplete subset of memoranda and reports from the MK-ULTRA program. They do include a description of some subsidiary projects, such as Bluebird, Artichoke and Derby Hat. In January, 1963 Gottlieb, at Helms direction, had already destroyed most of the other documents from the earlier CIA activities. Still others were withheld or heavily redacted. Those that remain refer to some of the experiments initiated in the 1950 s under the direction of Dr. Gottlieb. To me, they seemed scientifically imsophisticated and often done at the whim of the local agent in charge. [Pg.222]

The protection of a reactive intermediate complex by the DNA double helix versus a neutral oxidising agent in solution, has also been demonstrated by studying a photo-electron transfer process. In this example the intermediate complex is produced photochemically on the DNA, and is examined spectroscopically after a laser pulsed excitation [73]. Thus Ru(TAP)2(HAT) physically bound to nucleic acid is photo-reduced by hydroquinone during the laser pulse. The intermediate [Ru(TAP)2(HAT)] so-produced, detected by its absorption at 480 nm, is reoxidised by benzoquinone purposely added as oxidant to the solution. It is shown that this reoxidation of the mono-reduced complex is slower in the presence of polynucleotide than in its absence, indicating a protection of the transient mono-reduced complex in the DNA grooves. [Pg.54]

Studies of elemental astatine are complicated by the fact (hat the small amounts of astatine present are readily attacked by impunties ih.it normally would not be considered important. Must studies of Attflt involve on excess of iodine which ties the astatine up in All molecules.- - U behaves much as might be expected from the known behavior orl It is readily extractable into CQ4 or CHCli and may be oxidized to positive oxidation states bv reasonably mild oxidizing agents. [Pg.961]

Beneath his various hats as banker, philanthropist, prominent attorney, and Permindex director, Bloomfield is first and foremost an agent of the most secretive branch of Her Majesty s Intelligence service, the Special Operations Executive (SOE). [Pg.305]

In the light of w hat has been said above as to the many exacting requirements which chemical compounds must meet in order to qualify as chemical agents, it is not difficult to understand why, w ith many thousands of compounds from vrhich to choose, so few met with success in the World War and why so many of the early chemical agents werefatlures. [Pg.192]

For new concrete, the contractor may have used a curing agent or sealer (hat acted as a bond breaker. [Pg.375]
