Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent

American Medical Association, Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, and E. A. Spieler et al., Recommendations to guide revision of the Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, JAMA, 283 519-523 (January 26), 2000. [Pg.173]

The American Medical Association (AMA) defines impairment as loss, loss of use, or derangement of any body part, system, or function. WHO defines a disability as any restriction or lack of ability, resulting from an impairment, to perform an activity within the range considered normal. Most states require examiners to use the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment to determine accurate impairment ratings. The AMA guidelines limit the range of impairment values reported by different examiners. [Pg.55]
