The MEG method seems to be of considerable general utility even for compounds in which one would expect considerable covalency, so long as the structure is relatively compact and does not involve important angular variables. For example, the geometries of main-group sulfides and nitrides are predicted fairly accurately by this method (Muhihausen and... [Pg.130]

Many schemes oF qualitative analysis involve separation of the copper-group sulfides (PbS, CuS, CdS) horn the tin-group sulfides (HgS,... [Pg.488]

ASoSj, AsoS-, Sb.S., Sb.S-, SnS, SnS..) by treatment with NaoS-Na S solution, vhich dissolves only the tin-group sulfides. [Pg.488]

Silver sulfide materials on the nanoscale have also been studied considerably although they have not been explored as extensively as other transition group sulfides. One such work reports the development of silver sulfide nanomaterials using a one pot synthesis method wherein Ag(OAc) and dodecanethiol were mixed in a flask at RT and degassed for 15 minutes in N2 atmosphere. The solution was then heated to 205 °C for 100 minutes. Later the samples were washed and precipitated in... [Pg.105]

The peptides cystein and methionine contain sulfur in their side groups. Sulfides bind easily to metal ions, such as Fe U Cu +, Zn +, and Pb ". In the case of Fe, Fe-S complexes are formed, which are capable of easy reduction or oxidation. Pb + is poisonous and binds strongly at Zn + sites, but the structure is very different from the tetrahedral zinc complex. [Pg.298]

If a drop of the test solution is added to a solution of a few eg ammonium molybdate in 50 % sulfuric acid, a blue color appears immediately due to the reduction of Mo i to Mo. Alkali sulfides react similarly but sulfites, even in large amounts, do not. For this reason, it may be assumed that free (unstable) H2S2O8 acts as a reductant towards Mo i through its SH groups. Sulfides can be eliminated by previous treatment of the test solution with a cadmium salt, to precipitate CdS, and centrifuging. [Pg.455]
