Green Belt Movement

Interestingly, in 2004 the Nobel Prize for Peace was awarded to Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan veterinarian and academic for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace . She foimded, and for more than 30 years has been involved with, the Green Belt Movement which has focused on encomaging poor women to plant more than 30 million trees in an effort to curb desertification and provide resources. [Pg.212]
