Graphite bisulfate catalyst

Phenethyl alcohol, acetic acid, and graphite bisulfate stirred 22 hrs. at room temp, in dry cyclohexane phenethyl acetate. Y 97%. - The esterification proceeds easily at room temp, in the presence of relatively small amounts of the above catalyst. F. e., also optically active compds. with retention of configuration, s.
