Grafting vs. Mechanical Entrapment

Let us reexamine the evidence (Rosen, 1973). Considering the second observation first, it is seen that the argument assumes that the system is homogeneous at all times. Clearly, however, this assumption is invalid from the onset of phase separation onward in fact, only a modest fraction of monomer II is polymerized in the presence of polymer I (see Section 3.1.1.1 Rosen, 1973). (That portion of polymer II synthesized within the polymer I phase will, however, contain a greater than expected number of grafted sites, because of the close proximity and high concentration of polymer I molecules.) [Pg.82]

The argument based on inextricability also assumes that the system is homogeneous, an assumption that was quite reasonable before the existence [Pg.82]
