Carbon grafted

The electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction were prepared as follows. These complex compounds were inoculated onto the carbon (AG-3, BET area near 800 m2/g) by means of adsorption from dimethylformamide solutions. The portion of complex compound weighed so as to achieve 3% of Co content was mixed with the carbon, then 5 ml of dimethylformamide per 1 g of the carbon were added and the mixture was cured at room temperature for 24 hours. Series of samples obtained were thermally treated (pyrolyzed), and the resulting grafted carbons were tested as electrode materials in the reaction of molecular oxygen reduction. [Pg.347]

It appears (Table 11) that the reinforcing ability exhibited by a HAF carbon black in polybutadiene or EPR is much lower after its surface has been previously modified by grafting of polystyrene M). Such results cannot, however, be associated with the elastomer s incompatibility towards the polystyrene grafts since poly-isoprene-grafted carbon blacks yield similar conclusions 65). [Pg.125]

It should be pointed out that this method relies on the efficient dispersion of nanotubes in the relevant solvent. The choice of solvent is generally made based on the solubility of the polymer. However, pristine nanotubes usually cannot be well dispersed in most solvents. To get around this problem, Xia et al. (17) compared the dispersion of MWNT-graft-PU, MWNT-OH and raw MWNTs in 0.2% aqueous solution of sodium lauryl sulfate. The results showed that MWNT-graft-PU has a better dispersion stability compared to MWNTs and MWNT-OH. The incorporation of polyurethane-grafted carbon nanotubes had a better reinforcing effect compared to the raw carbon nanotubes. This should be attributed to the improved interfacial interaction between polyurethane matrix and carbon nanotubes. [Pg.146]

Polyaniline-grafted carbon black was prepared by Srinivas [3] and then platinized with chloroplatinic acid, as illustrated below, and used as a fuel cell component. Sulfurized analogues, (II), were prepared by Srinivas [4] and were also used as fuel cell components. [Pg.95]
