Goodman, Murray

Goodman, Murray (p. 246) born in New York N.Y. in 1928, studied chemistry at Brooklyn College and the Univ. of California and received his Ph.D. in 1952. He was a Research associate at MIT 1952-55, was Prof, of Chemistry at Polytech Institute Brooklyn 1956-71 and is now Prof, of Chemistry, Univ. of California, San Diego. 

This episode does not end here. A few months later the Frenchmen toured the U.S., and naturally came to Brooklyn to see Professor Mark s campus. In the tradition of his Geheimrat, Murray Goodman, then a young Professor at Poly, greeted the visitors, and saved honor by convincing them that the New York Supreme Court Building, a few blocks away, was the building Dr. Mark had described.

During the Symposium, we held a banquet in honor of Professor Herman Mark in celebration of his eightieth birthday. His Plenary Lecture and the Symposium Address by Professor Murray Goodman are published in full at the beginning of the first volume. I thank Professors Mark and Goodman for their excellent presentations on this memorable occasion. 

H -cholesteryl acetate has been prepared according to the procedure used for the preparation of H -cholesterol (Murray and Williams, 1958b) except that the hydrolysis in KOH was omitted. The acetate and butyrate esters of H -cholesterol were also synthesized on a microscale basis from 7a-H cholesterol, acetic anhydride, and butyiyl chloride, in pyridine (Deykin and Goodman, 1962).
