General provisions contain recommendations that are considered the minimum current good compounding practices for the preparation of drug products by state-licensed pharmacies for dispensing or administration to humans or animals. Enzyme Preparations used in food processing are derived from animal, plant, or microbial sources (see Classification, below). They may consist of whole cells, parts of cells, or cell-free extracts of the source used, and they may contain one active component or, more commonly, a mixture of several, as well as food-grade diluents, preservatives, antioxidants, and other substances consistent with good manufacturing practices. [Pg.146]

Buffer solutions are liquids of such composition as to resist appreciable changes in hydrogen ion concentration. Addition of traces of acids or bases leaves their pH practically unaltered. For this reason they are indispensable as comparison media in colorimetric pH determinations. Buffer mixtures can be retained unchanged for two months if stored in closed flasks made of good glass and containing a disinfectant (a minute th3unol crystal). It is preferable, however, to prepare fresh solutions each month. [Pg.239]

The kava will be the roots, rootstock, basal stems or scrapings, which will be clean, and substantially free of dirt, soil, and other contaminants. It will be prepared using good manufacturing practice, and will not contain vegetable matter derived from other plant species, insect fragments, or any other extraneous matter. In addition, it will have the following properties. [Pg.41]
