Gold sulfur containing

In the thermal production of gold coatings on ceramics and glass, paints are used which comprise Au chloro-complexes and sulfur-containing resins dissolved in an organic solvent. It seems likely that polymeric species are responsible for rendering the gold soluble. 

The selectivity of the catalyst is of major importance in the case of chlorinated VOCs the oxidation products should not contain even more harmful compounds than the parent-molecule, for example, formation of dioxins should be avoided. In addition, the minimization of CI2 and maximization of HCl in a product gas should be achieved [61]. These are just a few examples of why researchers are continuing the search for VOC oxidation catalysts as well as new reactor concepts. The new possibilities include, for example, utilization of nanosized gold catalysts in the oxidation of sulfur-containing VOCs and microwave-assisted processes where combination of adsorption and oxidation is used in low-concentration VOC oxidation [62, 63]. 

Electrochemical (EC) techniques provide an alternative way to detect sulfur containing molecules. Earlier methods of EC detection involve the application of a gold/mercury electrode.15 Platinum and gold electrodes have also been used for anodic detection of thiols,16 but this requires high oxidation potentials, which complicates analytical applications. Thus, chemically modified electrodes with inorganic or organic mediators have been employed to facilitate electron-transfer between the electrode and the analyte, and therefore reduce the oxidation potential. Recently, pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) modified electrodes have been developed for detection of endo- and exogenous thiols.17... 

Pulsed amperometric detection is used for the direct detection of a variety of polar aliphatic compounds, many of which, like carbohydrates, peptides and sulfur-containing compounds are of biological interest [171,197-200]. Most aliphatic compounds are not amenable to constant potential amperometric detection. Free-radical products from the oxidation of aromatic molecules can be stabilized by it-resonance hence the activation barrier for reaction is decreased. This mechanism is unavailable for stabilizing aliphatic free radicals. The activation barrier for oxidation of aliphatic compounds can be decreased at noble-metal electrodes with partially unsaturated d-orbitals (e.g. gold, platinum) that can adsorb and thereby stabilize free radical oxidation products and intermediates. Carbon electrodes are not electrocatalytic and are unsuitable for pulsed amperometric detection. 

In 2006, Krause and Nakamura independently reported the first examples of Au-catalyzed transformations of sulfur-containing reagents [11, 247].
