Glyoxime, dimethyl dioxime

Di-dimethyl glyoxime may be used for separating small quantities of nickel from cobalt.1 Excess of the glyoxime is added to a boiling ammoniacal solution of the cobalt salt, when the scarlet nickel cc-dimethyl glyoxime is precipitated.2 ct-diphenyl glyoxime (a-benzil dioxime) may be used in a similar manner with corresponding results.

The data indicate that in the concentration range investigated, the dimethyl-glyoxime and Nioxime parent complexes coordinate a single iodide ion each, while the furil dioxime parent complex is able to coordinate two iodide ions. The poor solubility of dimethyl-glyoxime complexes has always restricted study of their interesting physical properties (crystalline Ni(dmgH)2is a familiar red gravimetric precipitate as well as a one-dimensional electrical conductor). We have reported the synthesis of a series of freely soluble carbocyclic bis-dioxime complexes of structural types 1 to 4.
