The simultaneous measurement of multiple components in a high-density recombinant E. coli production process was reported by Macaloney et al.36 This well-written paper completely describes the methodology by which glycerol, acetate, ammonium, and dry weight were predicted. The manner in which these equations may be used as real-time control and analysis mechanisms is demonstrated. For comparison, the SEP values for glycerol, acetate, ammonium, and dry weight were, respectively, 0.6 g/1, 1.9 g/1, 13 mM, and 1.3 g/1.
