The me(o-dibromotetrol dl(134/256) (74) reacts normally with periodate (two moles/mole), and, after further oxidation, a 2,4-dibromo-3-hydroxy-glutaric acid was isolated. The para isomer, Dii(134/256) (105), was overoxidized, perhaps owing to liberation of bromomalonaldehyde.
