Glucose tolerance, genetic control

FUNCTIONS OF CHROMIUM. Identifying functions is difficult because this essential element does not do its work by itself rather, it appears to act cooperatively with other substances that control metabolism, such as (1) a hormone— insulin, (2) various enzymes, and (3) the genetic material of the cell—DNA and RNA. Chromium has a variety of functions, including (1) component of the glucose tolerance factor (GTE), (2) activator of certain enzymes, (3) stabilizer of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), and (4) formation of fatty acids and cholesterol. Details follow. [Pg.204]
