GP Uridyl Transferase. UDPGal participates in a nonpyrophosphateutilizing reaction to form UDPG when incubated with glucose-l-phosphate and an enzyme formed in galactose-adapted yeast. This is a transfer reaction which is freely reversible. 

A preliminary nucleophilic attack on the iimer P of UTP could come from the enzyme itself followed by transfer of UMP to glucose 1-phosphate. Thus the enzyme has been called uridyl transferase, and dmilarly, the enzyme catalyzing reaction (86) is considered a cytidyl transferase (308).
