Global protection system

The SCHC strives to keep its members aware of the latest developments concerning hazard communication. Topics at meetings include Internet resources American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standards Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSFLA) updates and international information. A major topic has been the international harmonization of hazard communication, the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. The development of the system was completed in 2001, adopted/endorsed by the UN in 2002, and is expected to affect hazard communication globally. [Pg.2956]

One of the most common uses for accelerometers is in airbag deployment systems in automobiles. The accelerometers are used to detect rapid deceleration of the vehicle to determine when a collision has occurred and the severity of the collision. Research is currently being done on the use of accelerometers to improve Global Positioning Systems (GPS). An accelerometer can infer position in places such as tunnels where the GPS cannot detect it. They are incorporated into Tablet PCs to align the screen based upon the direction in which the PC is being held and in many laptop computers to detect falling and protect the data on the hard drive. Accelerometers are incorporated into sports watches to indicate speed and distance (useful to runners). [Pg.89]

An example of an application global constant would be the high combustible gas alarm limit used in fire and gas protection systems, for example, 20 % LEL (Lower Explosion Limit). [Pg.62]

By adopting portions of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), OSHA s Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard, requires the use of GHS-compliant labels. Chemical hazard warning labels are one way of informing employees of the hazards and of how to protect themselves when using or storing a material. [Pg.439]

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (CHS) Presents a brief overview of the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for defining and communicating hazard information and protective measures related to the physical, health, and environmental risks of chemicals through product labels and safety data sheets (SDSs). [Pg.115]
