Global Economic Freedom

Critical Question Do the countries listed below possess sufficient economic freedom that will allow substantial economic growth to take place over the next four decades (2010-2050) to generate a large consumer class  [Pg.25]

The coxmtries listed above are the emerging markets and/or developing countries however, it would also be accurate to refer to these nine countries as xmderdeveloped economies, which begs the question - Why have these particular economies underperformed many other regions The answer has been categorized with an arbitrary quantitative analysis by Terry Miller and Kim R. Holmes in the Index of Economic Freedom [10]. [Pg.25]

According to this Economic Freedom analysis, which rated 179 out of 183 countries of the world in terms of ten measures of Economic Freedom, none of these nine xmderdeveloped coxmtries can be considered as free or mostly free economies. The results of the analysis by Miller and Holmes for these nine coxmtries are outlined in Table 1.13 in terms of decreasing economic freedom. [Pg.25]

As discussed above, future growth of the global polyethylene industry will be primarily determined by an increase in the global consumer class, which will be driven by an improvement in the economic freedom in global underdeveloped countries. [Pg.27]
