Gold-coated glass

In the thermal production of gold coatings on ceramics and glass, paints are used which comprise Au chloro-complexes and sulfur-containing resins dissolved in an organic solvent. It seems likely that polymeric species are responsible for rendering the gold soluble.

For microarray work, PLL-PEG-biotin-sAV monolayers adsorbed onto underlying titanium dioxide surfaces (pillars) replaced the b-SAM gold-coated glass surface. While oriented capture agents out-performed their random counterparts, distinct differences in Fab and antibody performance between this new surface and the b-SAM surface were apparent. 

Pumera et al. [34] used gold nanoparticle enhanced open channel NCEC for the separation of p-aminophenol, o-aminophenol, and m-aminophenol in a bare glass channel and polydiallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (PDADMAC) gold coated channel. The mobile phase used was acetate buffer (20 mM, pH 5.0) with electrokinetic sample injection at 1.5kV/cm for 3 seconds and 2.0kV/cm as separation voltage (Fig. 7.15). Broyles... 

Reversible bonding was also made between a PDMS layer and a gold-coated glass slide which had been deposited with thiolated DNA capture probes [955]. 

Tanaka et at. (T45) partially masked the surfaces of disks of slag glass with gold coatings the disks were then embedded in cement pastes for various periods, after which they were removed and examined by SEM. This showed that two layers of in situ product were formed. The innermost one had Si/Ca 0.64, Al/Ca 0.32 and Mg/Ca 0.34 the outer one had Si/Ca 0.61, Al/Ca 0.24, Mg/Ca 0.20. The product formed immediately outside the original boundary of the slag had Si/Ca 0.48, Al/Ca 0.09, Mg/Ca 0.17. The two layers of in situ product could have been mixtures in differing proportions of C-S-H. a hydrotalcite-type phase and possibly AFm phase.
