GILCHRIST, HARRY LORENZO (1870-1943). U S. Army officer. During World War I, Gilchrist served as medical director of the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS) in the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF). After serving as the commander of the American Typhus Expedition to Poland in 1919, he returned to the United States, where he served in the CWS as chief of medical research at Edge-wood Arsenal. He was appointed to succeed Maj. Gen. Amos Fries as chief of the CWS, serving in this capacity from 28 March 1929 until 16 May 1933. [Pg.90]
