Germination, Juvenile and Vegetative

We are concerned Here mainly, vlth the role of AA in germination, juvenile and vegetative gromth Reference to the work on the effect of auxins, gihberellins, and other regulators mill Be made only in relation to their interaction with AA. [Pg.100]

Role of AA in germination of seeds and later stages of plant gromth has been the subject of numerous reviews (Tonsig and Marre, 1955 Bonner, 1957 Mapson, 1958 1960 Rnox, 1960 Aberg, 1961 Chinoy et al., 1969 a, b Chinoy, 1962, 1977). [Pg.100]

As a certain minimum level of AA is maintained in the endosperm, it is likely that it is synthesized locally in this organ from carbohydrates as shown earlier by Chinoy et al. (1958 1961), to enable the redox balance to be maintained at an optimum level. The utilization of AA in the endosperm showed an inverse relation, i.e., with an increase in AAU activity there was a decline in the AA level (Fig. 4.1). Also, with increased AAU there occurred an increase in the bound form of AA, thus counteracting the [Pg.101]
