Germination curves

Figure 2 reports the time dependent germination pattern of radish seeds in the presence and absence of rue extract. Although the germination curves have the same general shape, important differences between control and treated seeds are evident. In fact, the rue extract induces a delay in the onset and a decrease in the rate of germination. [Pg.77]

Fig. 13.5 Calculated propagation constants (ft) for the fundamental modes of glass MNFs with refractive indices of 1.46 (silica), 1.48 (fluoride), 1.54 (phosphate), 1.89 (germinate), and 2.02 (tellurite), respectively. A circle marked on each curve corresponds to the maximum radius of the single mode MF. Radiation wavelength is X 633 nm. Reprinted from Ref. 62 with permission. 2008 Optical Society of America... D = (1.8 0.6) x 10 12m2s 1. The encounter distance was estimated to be 1.32 nm, which, when used in the Stokes—Einstein relation for the mutual diffusion coefficient, eqn. (28), givesD as (1.1 0.03) x 10 I2m2 s-1, in reasonable agreement with the estimate from fitting experimental and theoretical decay curves (mentioned above). The germinate pair recombination probability at long times was measured and its increase correlates moderately well with T1/2/rj as noted for other systems (see Sect. 3.1) but was concave upwards (see ref. 22). [Pg.147]

The sclerotia are light brown to blackish brown, pyriform to obpyriform, tapered at the apex, sometimes curved, 2-9 mm X 1 -4 mm (Chahal et al., 1985 Loveless, 1967 Thakur et al., 1984). Sclerotia can germinate as early as 4 weeks and as late as 56 weeks at 25°C (Takur et al., 1984). At 28°C and continuous high moisture, sclerotia germinate over a40-80-day period (Chahal et al., 1988). Up to 12-16 stromata can develop from a sclerotium (Chahal et al., 1988 Thakur et al., 1984). Stipes are pale purple or cream (Loveless, 1967 Thakur et al., 1984). Capitula are globose, 1-1.5 mm in diameter, grayish purple, slightly papillate (Loveless, 1967). Perithecia are ovate-pyriform, 130-175 X 60-95 pm. [Pg.220]

This peak value is a characteristic value of metabolism in the germinating plant seed, and the SL time curve of a germinating seed is characteristic of the seed metabolism in each plant. The high SL values in alfalfa make it a good system to study SL. [Pg.282]
