German Works

Hermes Trismegistus and the Corpus Hermeticum are present in a number of literary and/or philosophical works in Germany (like f. G. Herder s Aelteste Urkunde des Menschengeschlechts, 1774/ 1775 and his Adrastea, 1802), and in some Masonic rituals like the interesting Magi of Memphis, which is perhaps a French ritual. [Pg.189]

Two important works contributed to making Alexandrian thought better known, presenting it in a more general historical context (a) Bibliotheca Graeca, by Johann Albert Fabricius (14 vols., Hamburg, 1705/1728) see particularly Lib. I, cap. vii-xii, vol. I, 1708. The whole series was reissued with additions and corrections in Hamburg (see vol. I, 1790). [Pg.189]

Johann Mosheim published at Jena, 1733, a Latin translation of works by Ralph Cudworth Systema intellectuale hujus universi], with hermetizing commentaries. [Pg.190]

Dieterich Tiedemann, Hermes Trismegisti Poemandei (Berlin, 1781). [Pg.190]

Gustav Parthey, Hermes Trismegisti Poemander (Berlin, 1854) also his Jamblichi De Mysteriis (Berlin, 1857). [Pg.190]

Replacement of nickel chloride by nickel bromide has been claimed in the USA to reduce deposit stress, but subsequent German work was unable to substantiate this finding. [Pg.532]

A similar overview of German activities in 1998 is provided in [65]. The German working party on micro-reaction technology is presented, a federal funding program is introduced, and three top-priority research projects are presented. They show the activities at the edge of acceptance by industry. [Pg.21]

We have solved this problem taking into account previous German work [9] which describes the preparation of hexacoordinated silicon species directly by reaction of silica with catechol in presence of ammonia. [Pg.160]

It need hardly be mentioned that during the war years British and German work on the chemistry and toxic action of chemical warfare agents proceeded... [Pg.217]

The handbooks cited are almost exclusively the two best known English works Textbook of Inorganic Chemistry, edited by J. N. Friend and the monumental Comprehensive Treatise on Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry of J. W. Mellor. Occasionally other handbooks are cited, especially in connection with topics not as yet covered by the two already mentioned. Instructors in charge of graduate courses may prefer to direct their students to some of the well-known German works of the same type. [Pg.192]

In addition, a variety of sources were used to identify the patents associated with particular commercial products and to serve as a source of process information. These include the encyclopedic German work Pharmazeutische Wirkstoffe (4th edition), edited by A. Kleeman and J. Engel,6 and the 6-volume reference series on the Organic Chemistry of Drug Synthesis by Daniel Lednicer8 and references [10] through [14] below. [Pg.3841]

Studies along lines similar to those of this German work, carried out in the United States, led to similar results. In addition, it was shown that 1- N,N-dimethylamino)-2-phenylacetylene gave phenylacetamidines with little tendency to tautomerize to triazoles (70JOC3444). 4-Aminotriazole has been shown not to take part in ring-chain tautomerism (73TL1137). [Pg.168]

A procedure for the preparation of acenaphthenequinone based upon a postwar disclosure of German work used anhydrous acetic acid as solvent and ceric acetate as catalyst. The dichromate was added to a stirred mixture of the other reagents... [Pg.534]

Ethyl Alcohol and Higher Alcohols. Two general processes exist for hydrating olefins to alcohols. The first is by absorption of olefins in inorganic acids, primarily sulfuric acid, followed by hydrolysis of the intermediate ester. The second process is the direct catalytic hydration of the olefin. The literature on these processes, especially as applied to ethanol and 2-propanol manufacture, is well covered in the general works listed above, and especially by Brooks (22). German work on the catalytic hydration of olefins is described by Kammermeyer and Carpenter (55). The preparation of amyl alcohols via chlorination of pentanes and hydrolysis of the halides is described by Kenyon (56). [Pg.373]

Aromatic Acids by Oxidation of Side Chains. German work on this subject is briefly reported on by Mittag (74, T J) and by Michel and Krey (7 ). [Pg.375]

In research on the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, FTS, at the Bureau, mechanisms of the growth of the carbon chain and the use of iron nitrides as catalysts were developments that were not anticipated by previous German work. Herington (2) in 1946 was the first to consider chain growth in FTS. He defined a probability 3 that the chain will desorb rather than grow at the surface, where... [Pg.389]

Hanecke, K., Tiedemann, S., Nachreiner, F., Grzech-Sukalo, H. (1998). Accident risk as a function of hour at work and time of day as determined from accident data and exposure models for the German working population. Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health, 24, 43-4S. [Pg.52]

Meissner, Walther (1882-1974) and his graduate student Robert Ochsenfeld (1901-1993), both Germans working in Berlin, discovered in 1933 that a superconducting material repels a magnetic field— behaving as a perfect diamagnet. The effect became known as the Meissner (or Meissner-Ochsenfeld) effect... [Pg.617]

In Biltz s second letter, of January 6,1939, he asked Gajewski for a reference in support of his application for interim citizenship at the Anhalt Ministry of State. If the application was granted Biltz could return to the German Work Front Deutsche Arheitsfront), which would allow him to gain... [Pg.139]

Much of the German work has been done by Kruse and his associates. Tests at temperatures between 9 and 75°C were reported in 1976, including phosphate ion additions. In 1983, Kruse et al. reported on tests on behavior in warm water, including the use of phosphates to inhibit the cathodic reaction. [Pg.297]
