Geranyl acetate tiglate

Molecular weights of common esters are bomyl acetate, geranyl acetate, linalyl acetate, 196 3 menthyl acetate, 198 3 menthyl valerianate, 240-3 geranyl tiglate, 236 4 santalyl acetate, 262 4 methyl salicylate, 152 2. [Pg.727]

Some oils consist almost entirely of esters for example, those of Oaultheria procumhens and Betula lenta contain about 99 per cent, of methyl salicylate. Bergamot and lavender owe the greater part of their perfume value to esters of linalol, of which the acetate predominates. Geranium oil owes its fragrance chiefly to geranyl esters, of which the tiglate is the chief. On the other hand, oils such as spike lavender, sandalwood, lemon-grass, and citronella contain but small quantities of esters, and owe their perfume value to entirely different types of compounds. [Pg.162]

As the free acids present in essential oils consist in the main of acetic acid, they are, when necessary, calculated in terms of acetic acid in the same way the esters are conventionally calculated from the alkali required for their hydrolysis, in terms of the principal ester present, for example, linalyl acetate in the case of lavender and bergamot oUs, and geranyl tiglate in the case of geranium oil. [Pg.312]

The principal compounds present are the alcohols geraniol and citro-nellol, together with esters of these two bodies. The term reuniol was at one time applied to alcohols present in this oil, but it has long been shown to be merely an impure form of one or other of the two alcohols mentioned. Linalol, borneol, terpineol, phenylethyl alcohol, and probably amyl alcohol are also present in small amounts. The esters present are principally those of tiglic acid, but small quantities of esters of acetic, butyric, valerianic, and caproic acids are also present. It is usual to express the esters of geranium oil in terms of geranyl tiglate. [Pg.493]
