General Properties of Glycerol Auxotrophs

Glycerol auxotrophy has been shown to occur in two ways. One class of mutants has a missing or defective N A DP-dependent glycerol phosphate 

Glycerol auxotrophy has been mapped in B. subtilis and in E. coli In the latter case, the gene for the biosynthetic glycerol phosphate dehydrogenase is at 71.5 min and the defective glycerol phosphate acyltransferase is between 68 min and 69 min on the genetic map.
