The analytical methods used must be sensitive to the broad spectrum of relevant substances from antidepressants to cerebral stimulants of the amine type, bearing in mind the variations in abuse behavior that must continually be kept under observation, so that the method remains credible and the patient can be treated in the best possible manner. 

The authors attempt to describe the potential applications and limitations of GC/MS as a screening method for the rapid and reliable determination of drugs of abuse and to compare it with alternative viable procedures.
