General aspects of calibration and analysis

After producing suitable series of dilutions from the stock metal solutions, first spray for 2 minutes with demineralized water (4-3 ml/min.). The standard solutions are then atomized. A blank sample consisting of demineralized water should be inserted between every two measurements. The readings are plotted as extinction against concentration (in Mg/l). 

In the case of metals which are determined after enrichment by extracting in an organic solvent, all procedural steps must also be applied in the calibrating process. The calibration curves for nearly all elements are practically linear. 

The samples for analysis and calibration are treated according to the equipment instructions prescribed by the manufacturer. In order to keep the
