Gel filtration size exclusion

Purify the derivatized dendrimer using gel filtration (size exclusion chromatography) on a desalting column or through use of ultrafiltration spin-tubes (for G-4 and above). For smaller dendrimers, the derivatives may be purified by repeated precipitation from a meth-anolic solution by addition of ethyl acetate, dioxane, or benzene. The SPDP-dendrimer may be dried by lyophilization (if in water or buffer) or by solvent evaporation in vacuo (if the precipitation method was used). 

Molecular exclusion chromatography, also known as gel filtration, size exclusion chromatography, gel permeation chromatography, or simply gel chromatography, is another separation method based on differences in molecular size.

Once the bacterial cells have been lysed and a crude preparation of plasmid has been obtained, several other methods are available for purification of plasmid from the crude nucleic acid preparation, such as cesium chloride ultracentrifugation, gel filtration/size exclusion chromatography, anion exchange (used in the Qiagen kit mentioned above), and HPLC (Table 2) (see Note 2).
