Faced with this complexity, the proposal of a maturity index from UV spectrophoto-metric data supposes considering the evolution of the whole spectrum. The first step is the identification of the particular experimental spectra that permit explaining any other spectrum as a linear combination of these reference spectra [24]. This procedure is the semi-deterministic one, presented in Chapter 2 and already applied in the previous applications. These spectra are automatically selected from the set of a great number of spectra of raw extracts of composts (including humic and fulvic acids) or related to a gel chromatographic fraction. Four reference spectra have been selected from the spectra bank, corresponding respectively to the spectra of (Fig. 18) ... [Pg.258]

Reprecipitation from acetone/pentane is repeatedly effected until the condensation product suits in flaky form. Further purification is effected in that the crude product is chromatographed on silica gel. The fractions which are uniform in accordance with thin layer chromatography are combined and yield crystals from absolute alcohol. Pure 4 -demethylepipo-dophyllotoxin-/3-D-thenylidene glucoside has a melting point of 242°C to 246°C (last residue up to 255°C). [Pg.1445]

Separation of dibenzothiophene derivatives from petroleum oil fractions has been achieved by integrated approaches in which fractionating processes such as isothermal distillation, vacuum fractionation, and molecular distillation have been combined with spectroscopic methods including mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. " Dibenzothiophenes have also been concentrated in sharp chromatographic fractions obtained, for example, by, alumina gel percolation, and have been detected by gas chromatography. Gas chromatography has also been used to... [Pg.185]

Fractionation Data and Distribution Analysis of HEC After One Hour of Cellulase Attack. The results of the gel chromatographic separation of HEC after one hour of enzymic hydrolysis are given in Table II. These fractionation data did not correspond to any of the distribution functions mentioned by Peebles (41) and by Tung (42). In the middle of the distribution it corresponded to the Lansing-Kraemer distribution functions, but deviations occurred at the low- and high-molecular-weight ends. [Pg.114]

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), sometimes referred to as gel filtration chromatography (GFC) or size exclusion chromatography (SEC), entails the chromatographic fractionation of macromolecules according to molecular size. [Pg.487]

Investigation of the chloroform fraction [3] in Figure 1 resulted in the isolation of compounds 4 5 and 6. This was achieved through extensive column chromatography on silica gel. Compounds 4 and 5 were present in the oily chromatographic fraction which had the characteristic smell of cinnamon. Compound 4 was isolated as an oil and identified as cinnamaldehyde by formation of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine derivative which melted at 251-253° [lit(7) m.p. 255°c]. NMR, IR, and UV data were consistent with this assignment. Further proof was provided by air oxidation to form a white crystalline material which was. shown to be identical with compound 5 which upon IR, NMR, and UV comparison with an authentic sample (Aldrich Chemical Company) was shown to be cinnamic acid. [Pg.474]
