Geheimrat , Haber

Geheimrat Haber was accompanied by his wife, a nervous lady who was sharply opposed to his accompanying the new gas troops to the front, recalled one member of the group in 1955. But Haber would not be dissuaded. In February, together with his handpicked scientist-soldiers, he packed and drove westward toward the ancient trading city of Ypres.

Toward the end of 1933 Professor Haber came to visit Lord Rutherford. Paul Harteck brought him over to our laboratory and we had a brief reunion. But by now Haber was not the imposing Geheimrat anymore. He vias a sick, broken man who had lost his position, his home, his fatherland and most of his income. He died a few months later in Basel.
