Gas pressure regulation

Romans mined the mineral cinnabar (HgS) from deposits in Spain 2000 years ago, and in the sixteenth century the Spanish shipped mercury obtained from the same ore deposits to the Americas for the extraction of silver. Mercury is an important component of street lamps and fluorescent lights. It is used in thermometers and barometers and in gas-pressure regulators, electrical switches, and electrodes. [Pg.1479]

Commercial grade hydrogen can be used for glassblowing if there is no coal gas available. Hydrogen is much more expensive and its use involves the hire and replacement of heavy cylinders. A fuel-gas pressure regulator (Fig. 4.19) is also necessary, since the cylinder pressure is, when full, 140 kg/cm (2000 Ib/in ), and the line pressure need be no more than 20 cm water gauge. [Pg.18]

The gas pressure regulators to reduce the supply pressures to the required engine carburetor inlet pressures are usually mounted on the engine. Experience has proved that it is best to supply one regulator per carburetor (on dual-carburetor engines), mounted as close to the carbinetor as possible. This minimizes hne drops and governing instability. [Pg.1001]
