In 1866, the year after gaining her medical licence, Elizabeth Garrett opened St. Mary s Dispensary for Women and Children in Marylebone, London. Over the following years, Garrett willingly accepted students sponsored by the SPEW to be trained as dispensers for hospitals and for medical practitioners. Two of the sponsored young women were Minshull and Stammwitz. After Hampson had persuaded the SPEW to take on the cause of women in pharmacy, it appears that Minshull and Stammwitz were chosen to lead the assault. [Pg.390]
