Gamma hydroxybutyrate forms

Xyrem is used as an oral medication, available in solution form, for the treatment of cataplexy in patients with narcolepsy. Gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) is also used as a drug of abuse. [Pg.2863]

Gamma hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, is another popular club drug. It is a central nervous system depressant, which means that it slows down the functioning of the brain and nerves. GHB users feel sedated, sleepy, or sometimes euphoric. GHB can be taken in the form of tablets, a powder, or a liquid. [Pg.15]

GHB is short for gamma hydroxybutyrate. The form used as a club drug is a powerful, synthetically produced depressant that affects the central nervous system. However, GHB also exists naturally in the body. It is produced in the brain by a neurotransmitter called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GHB is found in several parts of the human brain, particularly the thalamus, the hypothalamus, and the substantia nigra. [Pg.36]

In trying to form a polyester from gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, what percent conversion is required to obtain a molecular weight of 25000. [Pg.371]
