Galbreath technique

The Galbreath technique, also known as the jaw lift, assists in the opening of the Eustachian tube. It is effective in otitis media and also in treating the stuffiness of the ear often experienced by airline passengers, especially if it persists despite swallowing and yawning. [Pg.615]

The child was treated with the Galbreath technique bilaterally, myofascial release to the cervical spine, lymphatic pump to the thorax, and cranial treatment of the temporal bones and release of the condylar compression. [Pg.616]

Otitis media responds well to maintaining an open Eustachian tube, which can be facilitated by osteopathic manipulation. The Galbreath technique, or jaw lift, is useful in this regard. Because a portion of the Eustachian tube lies in the temporal bone, this bone must be kept functioning normally, i.e., internal and external rotation in conjunction with the normal cranial rhythmic impulse. The circulation to the ear and the normal flow of the lymphatics to and from the ear must be considered when formulating a treatment plan. [Pg.616]
