Galactic Sources

We come now to the discussion of acceleration mechanisms of galactic cosmic rays. The interpretation of data on the ultra-high energy particles suggests that acceleration in galactic sources should go at least up to 1018 —1019 eV. We shall see that an appropriate mechanism in our Galaxy is not easy to identify. 

The word microquasar was proposed for the first time in 1992 to refer to this new class of galactic sources, not only because of the observed morphological similarities with the distant quasars, but also because of the physical similarities the system itself behaves as a scaled-down version of quasars. 

The weak point of CYGAM is its poor energy resolution. But for extragalactic and strong enough galactic sources there is a possibility to derive spectral index from the distribution of angles a...

Extra galactic sources like m82 may be seen out to TOMpc, thus beyond the local group. The volume of space sampled for active galaxies is considerable. One may speculate about detection of "infrared galaxies, when they exist, there is a good chance that IRAS will discover a reasonably large sample of them. 

Natural EMI sources - Sources that are associated with natural phenomena. They include atmospheric charge/discharge phenomena such as lightning and precipitation static and extraterrestrial sources including radiation from the sun and galactic sources such as radio stars, galaxies and other cosmic sources.
