Fungi athletes

Dermatophyte is the term applied to a range of fungi capable of colonizing the skin, nails or hair. The principal dermatophytic fungi are Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton species. The most commonly encountered dermatophytic infections are athlete s foot (infection of the foot) and ringworm (fungal infection of the scalp or skin). [Pg.47]

Tolnaftate is an antifungal agent that distorts hyphae and inhibits mycelial growth in susceptible fungi. It is indicated in the treatment and prophylaxis of tinea pedia (athlete s foot) treatment of tinea cruris (jock itch) or tinea corporis (ringworm) caused by specific fungi treatment of oncho-mycosis, chronic scalp infections, palm and sole infections with kerion formation and treatment of tinea versicolor. [Pg.697]
