From Tellurium and Benzoyl Chlorides

Tellurium powder heated on a water bath with arenecarboxylic acid chlorides reacted to form diaroyl tellurium dichlorides in good yields  [Pg.506]

Bis[2-nitrobenzoyl] Tellurium Dichloride7 Under dry nitrogen, 1.28 g (10 mmol) of finely powdered tellurium and 3.71 g (20 mmol) of 2-nitroben7,oyl chloride are heated on a water bath for 12 h. The mixture is then allowed to cool to 20 and is extracted several times with chloroform. The combined extracts are concentrated, and the brown precipitate is filtered and recrystallized from chloroform/petroleum ether (b.p. 60-80 ) yield 2.6 g (60%) m.p. 132 . [Pg.506]

When the reaction of benzoyl chloride and tellurium was carried out in the presence of sodium iodide, dibenzoyl tellurium diiodide (m.p. 110°) was isolated in 60% yield. This diiodide was reduced to dibenzoyl tellurium by zinc dust in refluxing chloroform.  [Pg.507]
