Afterward, lawyers from MGM, NBC, and Arena scrutinized every aspect of the proposed series to pinge anything that might be construed as Bondian. MGM s legal department recommended that the special Solo gun, then imder development by the MGM art department, should not be based on either a Beretta or a Walther PPK, the weapons that Bond had used in the novels. Even passing references to Dr. No and From Russia with Love were completely eliminated from an NBC presentation to its affiliates and advertisers (Felton, 1964b 1964c). [Pg.248]

Is From Russia with Love a great spy film Yes, but there is more—much more. Like the original novel, From Russia with Love is really a catalog of secret sexual fetishes thinly veiled by the world of the 60s Secret Agent. [Pg.16]

From Russia With Love was, by all accounts, a better film. Better scripted, it also adhered more closely to the novel. Harvey seemed more at home in the character and the setting. Production suffered few mishaps and the schedule was met. Box office turned out a little better. [Pg.35]

Bond might be slightly shocked when learning, in Live and Let Die, that Americans prefer to sleep naked, but he has apparently no problem with doing so in Istanbul in the novel From Russia with Love—especially when he finds Tatiana Romanova in his bedroom. [Pg.150]

Be careful with the knot of your tie. According to From Russia with Love, Bond does not trust a man with a Windsor knot, a sign of vanity and, often, vulgarity (this knot is typical of the SMERSH agent). Bond s ties are usually dark in color, although, when in the U.S. in the novel Live and Let Die, he wears a brightly colored one. [Pg.150]

When not dressed for the office or a formal occasion. Bond s choice is a dark blue cotton shirt over light blue cotton slacks (as we see in the novels From Russia with Love and Thunderbolt). We can assume that Bond s look when in Jamaica must have been very similar to Fleming s at home in Goldeneye (near Oracabessa, or, in ancient Spanish, Goldenhead) a white cotton shirt over white swimming trunks. [Pg.151]
