Friction igniters or primers

Some of the simplest mixtures are K chlorate with sugar or with antimony sulfide. Davis (Ref 1, p 453) gives table listing three compns which have been widely used in friction primers for artillety, separate-loaded ammunition...

Percussion caps serve as primers for propellant charges. In mechanical percussion caps, a friction-sensitive or impact-sensitive priming charge (containing, e.g., mercury fulminate with chlorates or lead trinitroresorcinate with Tetrazene) is ignited by the mechanical action of a firing pin. 

If an expl is intended for use in primers, then its brisance and power may be lower than for groups (1), (2) and (3), but it should possess low sensitivity to impact and friction and should produce a hot flame in order to ignite a charge of proplnt or a deiay train...

Primary explosives explode from shock, from friction, and from heat. They are used in primers where it is desired by means of shock or friction to produce fire for the ignition of powder, and they arc used in detonators where it is desired to produce shock for the initiation of the explosion of high explosives. They are also used in toy caps, toy torpedoes, and similar devices for the making of noise. Indeed, certain primary explosives were used for this latter purpose long before the history of modern high explosives had yet commenced.
