Trees Fragment

Fragmentation trees similar to that shown here can be constructed from any El mass spectrum, providing ten thousands of examples for the sixth assumption of QET that fragment ions may again be subject to dissociation, provided their internal energy suffices.

Currently, ion trap MS instmments are primarily used for analytical applications, i.e., in combination with GC or LC in, among other, enviromnental, food-safety, chnical, pharmaceutical, or biochemical apphcation areas. In many of these applications, the potential of multistage-MS" plays an important role. The acquisition of fragmentation trees enables detailed study on the fragmentation behavior of target compounds and/or compound classes, e.g., [67]. 

MS measurements were performed to obtain information of fragment ions generated in the linear ion trap (nominal mass of product ions) within the same analysis. In addition, the accurate masses of these product ions could be obtained in a second analysis. The masses of these fragment ions were linked with precursor compound masses and were ordered in a so-called fragmentation tree . Confirmation of the identity was done by comparing the retention time and fragmentation pattern of the compound to that of a synthesized reference standard (Hogenboom et al. 2009). 

A molecule is represented by a tree which Rarey and Dixon called a feature tree, within which the nodes are fragments of the molecule. The atoms belonging to one node are connected in the molecular graph. A node consists at least of one atom. 

The Pedemontana Jungle sectors that have been left isolated are subject to edge effect, with changes clearly visible in microclimatic variables. The AGB in fragments is notably reduced for the main five tree species studied, but the species composition has also changed. 

As with any frag grenade, the user must protect himself from flying fragments. A prone position in a ditch, or shelter behind a tree, stump, or boulder will be sufficient protection.
