There have been attempts to link the properties of particular subpopulations with the expression of surface molecules. It has been noted that transcriptive factor Foxp3, which is an activator for the production of scurfin, a protein found both on CD25+ and CD25- lymphocytes, may deprive cells of suppressive properties, as they may lead to reduced cytokine release and T-lymphocyte proliferation (Schubert et al., 2001 Ramsdell, 2003). Consequently, food allergy or autoimmunological conditions may develop.
