Fossil fuels consumption statistics

Table 7.7 illustrates the rapid increase of global fossil fuel consumption from the data of the World Resources Institute for 1950-2003. We shall now consider more detailed statistical data for different kinds of fossil fuel and energy resources in general, with emphasis on extremely non-uniform distributions of energy consumption for different countries (Table 7.8). 

Statistical data of fossil fuel (coal, oil, natural gas, etc) consumption, biomass (com, rice, wheat, etc) burning, metal smelting, and chemical industry production are useful foremission sources inventory. 

For 40 years, energy consumption has increased by more than 40%, and the development of emerging countries accelerates this trend, which raises two main problems the scarcity of raw materials oil, coal and gas and the production of carbon dioxide, which contributes to chmate change. The production of primary energy is at the beginning of this century based on fossil fuels, as shown in Figure 1.3, extracted from lEA statistics for 2008. 

It is worthwhile mentioning that according to the statistic data issued by the IBAW Industrial Association, the production and consumption of bio-based plastics was 50 K Tons in year 2004, and two years later in spite of the rosy perspectives, only a production of 150 K Tons was recorded [11], and nowadays after a decade, it has reached a production level of one order of magnitude higher but maintaining, however, the same proportional gap with respect to the fossil fuel feedstock-based plastics [12] (Fig. 14.1).
