We use two subscripts to indicate the orientation of the citation and emission polarizers, respectively. For example, Iffy corresponds to horizontally polarized excitadon and vertically polarized emission. This notation is easy to recall since the order of the subscripts represents the order in which the light passes through the two polarizers. [Pg.298]

Note that it does not matter if the intensity of the excitation is changed when the excitation polarizer is rotated to the horizontal position.
