Forklift Trucks—General Safety Guidelines

The operator of a powered industrial truck must know and understand a myriad of safe operating rules and guidelines. All of the following guidelines can be a part of a comprehensive training package. [Pg.137]

All operators must be thoroughly trained in the safe handling and use of their equipment. All employees should familiarize themselves with the manufacturer s guidelines for each specific vehicle or model of truck. Most powered industrial equipment requires operator safety instruction. [Pg.137]

Never raise or lower a load while the vehicle is in motion. [Pg.138]

Use shrink wrapping and product banding for security and prevention of collasping of product. Where banding or shrink wrapping is broken or missing from elevated loads, lower the loads and secure them. [Pg.138]

Do not speed. Adjust driving speed according to conditions. When people are present, expect the unexpected—slow down. Place traffic cones, barricades, or signs on slippery areas within the warehouse to warn workers of the hazard. [Pg.138]
