The simplest (and very common) setup is the dewar and source used for the screening test of cooled detectors or focal plane arrays (FPAs) - as shown in Figure 9.1. FPAs are mounted in a dewar along with a spectral filter and dewar window, and illuminated by a separate IR source. Such a dewar can be evacuated and cooled in an hour or so one can use it to evaluate three or four FPAs in a single day. It is versatile and will undoubtedly be found in test labs for many years.
